Sketchy Thursday

For today's edition of "Sketchy Thursday" I asked some of our design team members to create a project based on this fabulous sketch by Valerie Salmon.

Design team member Lisa Kisch created this heartfelt layout by flipping the sketch counterclockwise so that her half circle appears on the right side of her layout.  Here's what Lisa had to say ... ""I was inspired by the half moon shape in the sketch, and I loved the idea of using a blow up photo, plus a smaller accent photo. I wanted to use both patterns in the Twitterpated Delight paper, so first I cut a large half-circle shape on one side, then cut it off and flipped it over to place both patterns side by side. The flower accent on the bottom left was created by layering a Paper Flower and Metal Brad over one of the Chips. I love the texture it adds!"

Pebbles supplies used:

Other supplies used:
Cardstock (American Crafts)

Thickers (American Crafts)
Floss (Bazzill Basics)
Circle Cutter (Creative Memories)

Design team member Deena Wuest created this absolutely adorable layout using lots of goodies from both our Twitterpated and Tree House collections.  Here's what Deena had to say ... "I love sketches. They cure that initial "Oh, dear - look at this blank white page" syndrome. They initiate the creative process then magically inspire to branch off and create something uniquely yours. I loved the unexpected circle element on the sketch but adapted it to create a free-flowing row of flowers to fit my layout. Positioning the green patterned paper vertically instead of horizontally instantly creates "stems" for the bed of flowers."

Charming Glitter ABC Stickers (732000)

Other supplies used:

Design team member Ria Mojica really made the sketch her own on this fun layout.  Here's what Ria had to say ... "I love how the Twitterpated collection is girly but not too much that I can't include my son in the photos because of the brown.   Because I used two 4x6 photos instead of the recommended 5x7 (or two 3.5 x 5 photos), I decided to let go of the circle shape in the bottom of the page in favor of a large rectangular block.  Instead of a 3rd circular photo, I used the space for the title.  I love love love the candy dots - they're the easiest to use to add accents and look so yummy I actually want to eat them up!  I doodled the scallops on the brown cardstock to lighten up the brown and make the whole layout look more fun."

Dear Pebbles

Welcome to another "Dear Pebbles" post here on the Pebbles blog.  Today we are featuring cards created by some of our design team members using their favorite Pebbles products.

First up is design team member Melinda Spinks.  I have to admit I think I squealed out loud a bit when I saw these cute pop up cards sitting in my email inbox.  Are they not cute or what?  Here's what Melinda had to say ... "I decided to have a play with a 'pop-up' technique after watching my son read one of his  books and take great delight in lifting each page to reveal a wonderful 'pop-up' surprise! So it got me thinking ...  how cool would it be to have a nice surprise waiting for the recipient when they opened their card.  The Twitterpated collection has such a gorgeous colour palette and so many different papers that I had no trouble at all mixing and matching to make these two simple yet elegant cards ...  and not to mention that extra 'reveal' on the inside."

How To Tuesday

For today's "How To Tuesday" post design team member Natalie Dever shows us how to create a super cute gift box.  Here are Natalie's step by step instructions ...

First, cut your patterned paper to 8 1/2 x 11.

Then position your paper lengthwise and score at 2, 5, 7 and 10 inches.

Next turn your paper and score at 2 inches.  Cut the score lines at 2, 5, 7 and 10 inches up to the 2 inch score mark, and cut off smallest piece (this will be the bottom of your bag).

Use a bone folder or scor-pal tool and crease all score lines.  Apply adhesive to small side flap, and adhere together.

Tuck in bottom flaps and adhere closed.

Decorate as desired.

Mix & Match Monday

Happy Monday everyone!  Today's post is all about mixing and matching as some of our talented design team members show you how well all of our Pebbles collections work together.

First up is design team member Zoe Nemburt combines the Tree House and Twitterpated collection "perfectly" on her sweet layout.  Here's what Zoe had to say ... "I Love both the Twitterpated and Tree House collections, I had so much fun mixing them up for today's project.  I used lots of yellows and browns from Twitterpated and mixed them with the greens and reds from the Tree House collection - I love how they match together."

Design team member Kryssi Ng created this adorable door hanger for her daughter's room using both the Tree House and Twitterpated collections.  Here's what Kryssi had to say ... "I find that toddlers tend to follow picture cues better than verbal instructions. I needed a way to communicate to my 4 year old to keep quiet while her little sister is napping. Shushing and coaxing her out of the room did not work because our hush hush battle would wake the baby up. With a door sign, she will know it's quiet time, hopefully without me saying a word!"

Last but certainly not least design team member Suzanne Sergi created this perfectly sweet card using the Twitterpated and Tree House collections.  Here's what Suzanne had to say ... "Tree House meets Twitterpated, and it is a perfect combination! One of the things I love about Pebbles products is that their color palettes are an exact match. I know I have mentioned it before, but it does make it so easy to create projects! The yellows and greens in both of these collections were exact. It was so easy to mix paper and embellishments within the collections. It really helped me to create this fun and vibrant card! This card was created in less than 30 minutes! Thanks to the 3x3 cards with an assortment of sentiments to choose from! Okay, let us not forget Pebbles ribbon! Have you used it? Whip It Up Wednesday

For today's post I challenged some of our design team members to "whip up" a project using Pebbles products in 30 minutes or less.  Check out these fabulous projects that can be created in no time at all!

Design team member Kristen Swain put together this adorable layout in 30 minutes flat (she even included a time table to help keep you on track and your layout moving along).  Here's what Kristen had to say ... "When in a time crunch, it helps to have your photos printed and trimmed to the size you want to use. Use bold patterned papers to cut out and make a large border on your layout.  My biggest and best tip? KISS - Keep It Simple Sister!"

1. Take 10 minutes and cut out flowers and leaves from paper.
2. Take 5 minutes to use word program to print out journaling and title.
3. Take 5 minutes to trim papers.
4. Take 10 minutes to adhere papers, photos, and cutouts on layout.

Design team member Mimi Leinbach created this sweet layout in no time at all.  Here's what Mimi had to say ... "This layout came together so quickly. I used two pieces of patterned paper and simply color blocked the background. I added one photo and embellished with the coordinating products ... so quick and easy. After all it is the photo we want to stand out. Here the blue background of the water looks so fun and summery with the Twitterpated collection. I tend to spend a lot longer than 30 minutes to do most layouts so this was pretty freeing to be able to keep it quick and simple and I still love the layout."

How To Tuesday

For today's edition of "How To Tuesday" design team member Kim Kesti demonstrates a super cute and creative ribbon technique.  Here's what Kim had to say ... "I’ve seen a lot of pretty ribbons and embellishments lately that have a pleated look. It made me wonder how easy (or difficult) it might be to make my own.  With a little monkey business, I think I figured it out."  And here are Kim's step by step instructions ...

First, gather your supplies.  I’m using some of the wonderful Pebbles Raspberry ribbon, flower brads, and double sided tape.

I first trimmed my cardstock to 8.5 X 5. 5” and folded it in half for a card base.  I added two rows of double sided tape across the whole length of my card. (I did try to use tape runner at first. Don’t. Trust me on this one).

If your tape has a backing, peel that off and begin to place your ribbon down. Pull up a little tab every ¾” or so. I spaced my tabs out so five fit across my card. The sturdiness of the double sided tape allowed me to lift my ribbon and gently reposition it until all the tabs were even.

Here’s a side view that shows the tabs a little more clearly.

I continued on with my second row of ribbon; polka dots this time.

Once all the ribbon was adhered, I grabbed my piercer and piercing mat. I finger pressed the ribbon down until I had an even pleat, pierced a hole right in the center and added a brad to hold down the pleat.  I wouldn’t recommend trying to insert the brad unless you have a hole pierced. Again, trust me on this one. Hee, hee.

Continue on until both rows of ribbon are pleated. I used a plain white brad on the top row and thise cute flower brads on the bottom row.

To finish my card, I simply added a strip of patterned paper; I felt like the words on the paper were enough of a sentiment.

What do you think? I hope you try this at home – leave us a link if you do! We’d love to see what you come up with.

Mix & Match Monday

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend.  Today on the Pebbles blog we'll be mixing and matching some Pebbles products to show you just how well our collections can be used with one another.

First up I (Lynn Ghahary) created this layout using patterned papers from both the Twitterpated and Tree House collections.  The yellows and greens in both of these collections are an exact match so it makes mixing and matching so easy.  These photos of my son Darian when he was little were just begging to be scrapped!  I can't even begin to tell you how many photos of him I have with this exact expression - for the longest time this is what he would do every time I pulled out the camera.  What a stinker ... but oh so cute!  LOL

Design team member Ginger Williams created this sweet "thank you" card using both the Twitterpated and Tree House collections as well.  Here's what Ginger had to say about her project ... "I'm a firm believer that you can never have enough cute "Thank You" cards on hand! "Thank You" cards are always appreciated and handmade ones even more so! I love how the Pebbles papers in the Tree House and Twitterpated collections include these awesome sentiment cut-outs that make creating your own cards so fun and easy! I used one here from the Tree House collection, paired it with papers and embellishment from both Twitterpated and Tree House collections, and made a fun and easy card that will be perfect for giving away the next time I need to say "Thank You!"

I also wanted to take this opportunity to share design team member Zoe Nemburt's "all about me" project from last week.  Zoe's box of goodies was delayed reaching her craft room so we weren't able to post her layout with her introduction, but this gorgeous layout deserves some time in the spotlight so I am sharing it here on the blog today.  Here's what Zoe had to say about her project ... "Over the last year I have lost 30lbs.  I have worked pretty hard for this achievement.  Before I never liked to scrap about myself but now I do a lot more.  I believe it's important for our children and grandchildren to know about us and our lives.  We all seem to hide behind the lens a lot but we are special in our own way."

Meet the Team: Melinda Spinks and Eva Pizarro plus a GIVEAWAY!

Melinda Spinks lives on a farm in North East Victoria, Australia with her husband and two children.  She is a farmer's wife first and foremost and creates when her children are in bed and her husband is asleep after a hard day of work on the farm.  Melinda began scrapbooking in 2009 and hasn't looked back since.  Melinda describes her scrapbooking style as "whimsical" and some of her favorite technqiues include paper piecing, quilling, rolling, and doodling among others.   We are thrilled to welcome Melinda to our team this year.

Describe yourself in 3 words … difficult question (that's two words LOL!) - happy, passionate, creative

My guilty pleasure is … time to myself! As much as I live for my family, I seriously love to have a few small moments all to myself, to rejuvenate and rest, even if it's just long enough to read a magazine and have a full can of diet coke to myself!

You’ll never find me without … my camera! You just never know when you are going to be faced with the perfect photo ...  a moment in time that you don't want to forget, espcially as our children seem to be growing so fast!

Growing up I … never had a care in the world. I had a simple, honest, and happy childhood with a large family in the country and it was the perfect start to my life! (Thanks Mum and Dad)

You might be surprised to know that I … learned the piano for 17 years and can't play a single note without a piece of music in front of me!

If I could live anywhere in the world it would be … home on the farm! I know there are so many gorgeous, exotic and romantic places dotted around the world but I'm happiest at home!

My least favorite chore is … ironing - I don't do it! If an item of clothing doesn't pass the scrunch test in the shop, it doesn't get to come home with me!

If I had one wish it would be … a never ending glue runner! Oh, and world peace! :)

Here's what Melinda has to say about her project ... "When Lynn first asked us to create a layout about ourselves I panicked and thought "no way - I don't even like having my photo taken."  However, as this was my first assignment I didn't think it was a good idea to stomp my feet, hold my breath, and refuse the task. Although I haven't journaled about myself on the layout, I have interpreted a bit of my personality into the design and the colour scheme. A little bit simple, a little bit fussy, a helping of bright and cheerful and a hint of something a bit more in depth."

Eva Pizarro has been living in Italy for the past 6 years with her husband although she is originally from Chile.  She discovered scrapbooking 2 years ago thanks to a friend and immediately fell in love.  Eva is drawn to bright colors when she scrapbooks and states that her journaling is the most important part of her layouts.  Scrapbooking has provided Eva the perfect way to to express her inner feelings and emotions all while getting in touch with her creative side.  We are so happy to have Eva as part of our team this term.

Describe yourself in 3 words . . . sensitive, curious, creative

My guilty pleasure is
. . . good italian food. When I arrived to Italy I gained almost 10 pounds! I ate lots of pasta, gelato and pizza ... yummy!

You’ll never find me without . . . my MAC. Love it!

Growing up I . . .  had lots pets: 2 birds, 2 rabbits, 1 dog, 1 fish, 1 hamster, 1 rooster and lots of chickens and chicks.

You might be surprised to know that I . . . am a natural blonde ... just kidding! :D

If I could live anywhere in the world it would be . . . in a place near the beach, with good food, mild weather all year long and lots of scrapbook stores.  If any of you knows this place please let me know!

My least favorite chore is … ironing.  I love to do it but not as much as cleaning the toilet! LOL!

If I had one wish it would be . .  to have a large family.

Here's what Eva had to say about her project ... "I like to do layouts about myself, record the things I do in a certain period of my life, my fears, joys and emotions.  For this layout I decided to list some of my favorite things, nothing very deep, just the simple things.  The Twitterpated collection was perfect for mylayout, I love the color palette and all the gorgeous flowers designs."

Meet the Team: Lady Grace Belarmino and Zoe Nemburt

Lady Grace Belarmino lives in the Philippines with her husband and their one year old daughter.  Lady Grace, or LG as her friends call her, started scrapbooking in 2008 following the birth of her daughter.  With a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts and Major in Advertising Design, LG decided that scrapbooking was the perfect way to preserve her most precious family memories all while expressing her creative side.  While LG states that her style varies from one layout to the next, some of her favorite techniques include hand cutting, distressing, and lots of layering.  We are so happy to have LG join our team this year.

Here's what LG has to say about her project ... "I am a new mother and I started scrapbooking a few months after my daughter, Hannah, was born. According to my spouse, the most common thing you will find in my pages are my daughter's photos. Since then, he encouraged me to scrap myself from time to time. This page is about some quick facts about myself. I enjoyed using the journaling stickers and used them to include information about my personality, my birth date, and some of my favorites."

Zoe Nemburt lives in Nova Scotia, Canada with her husband and their three children - Yasmin 7, Aydin 6, and Ceyda 3.  Zoe works for Canada Post by day as a casual letter carrier and scraps obsessively by night and on her days off.  Having dabbled in scrapbooking for many years Zoe took the plunge head on in 2008 and hasn't looked back since.  She proudly calls herself a "scrapaholic" and plays with paper every chance she gets!  We are thrilled to have Zoe join our team this term.

Describe yourself in 3 words … honest, creative, sarcastic

My guilty pleasure is … chocolate & scrappy papers!

You’ll never find me without … actually this isn’t an easy one because I constantly forget things! I went out to go to work at 4am one morning and left my car keys in the house, and of course locked the door! Any idea how hard it is to wake a darling husband up at that time!?! So I guess you'll never find me without my head!

Growing up I … was obsessed with horses.  Every weekend and through the summers I would go and clean, feed, and brush the horses.  It didn’t even matter if I got to ride or not I just loved to be around them. I still love them now!

You might be surprised to know that I … have visited the Pyramids of Giza twice!

If I could live anywhere in the world it would be … Prince Edward Island.  I am very lucky I almost do live there, we have a second house there it's only a 2 hour drive.  My children call it our weekend house!

My least favorite chore is
… grocery shopping.  Absolutely hate it! I don’t think I have been for groceries this year! I write lists for hubby!

If I had one wish it would be
… good health to everyone.

Unfortunately Zoe's goodies were delayed en route to her craft room so her project is not ready to post today.  We'll be sure to highlight her "all about me" layout as soon as we can though!  :)
