How To Tuesday

First things first, I have a winner to announce from last week's "Favorite Things" giveaway. Thank you all so much for your comments. And the lucky winner is ...

Congratulations! Please email your full name and mailing information (including your phone number for shipping purposes) as well as your choice of current Pebbles collection to pebblesincdt(at)gmail(dot)com and put "Favorite Things Winner" in the subject line.

Design team member Laura Vegas is going to share a fun ribbon technique with us today.  You'll also notice that Laura is using our brand new mid-release collection Floral Lane - isn't it gorgeous?!?  Here's what Laura had to say ... "One of my favorite Pebbles products is their ribbons. I love all the fun and bright colors that they come in. I'm always looking for new ways to incorporate ribbons onto my layouts and cards. One new technique I have been having fun with, is making flowers out of ribbons."

First, you'll need to gather your supplies. You will need some ribbon, thread or floss, a needle, glue dots, and your embellishment of choice to add to the centers of the flowers. I'm using some dimensional stickers for mine. But you could also use buttons, felt embellishments, chipboard flowers, etc.

Thread your needle. White thread works just fine, since it really won't show once the flower is assembled. Start at one end of the ribbon, and do a basic running stitch (up and down through the fabric) along the bottom of the ribbon. You want to go about 1/8 of an inch from the bottom of the ribbon.

The length of your ribbon, will depend on how big you want your flower to be. I suggest doing your running stitch, and bunching up the ribbon now and then to get a feel for how more you need to stitch. For my flowers, I used a 10 inch strip of ribbon.

Once you have completed your running stitch, you will want to gather up the ribbon. To do this, you will hold the remaining thread (keeping the needle on there) with one hand, and push the ribbon down the thread to gather it. You might need to work it down from the bottom a little, and then come back to the top and work that part down. You can gather it as tightly or as loosely as you like.

The gathered ribbon will curl up, so you need to work it into a nice circle shape, making sure it doesn't get too twisted up as you go. Then hold the two ends of the ribbon together, and use your needle to sew those ends together, tying it off on the backside.

Repeat these steps for any remaining ribbons. I created three flowers, using yellow, pink, and blue ribbon. Also pull out your embellishment of choice for the flower centers.

To assemble my ribbon flowers, I use mini glue dots to adhere the ribbon to my card or layout, leaving the center open. Then I use foam pop dots to adhered my embellishment to the center, which gives it some lift and dimension in the center of the flower.

These ribbon flowers will look super cute on your layouts or cards. I hope you'll try out this fun technique, and see what you can come up with!

More "Favorite Things" Projects with Laura and Lisa

Design team member Laura Vegas documented her current list of "favorites" on this fun layout.  Here's what Laura had to say ... "I thought it would be fun to do a layout about some of my favorite things. I have created a few other layouts like this in the past, and it's fun to look back and compare which favorites have changed and which remain the same. As with a lot of my "all about me" layouts, I choose to create a photo-less layout. I have a lot of fun creating these, and just focusing on the fun products and what I want to say. I used my circle cutter, to cut out different sized circles from a variety of pattern papers. Each circle contains a list of favorites for a specific theme, like music, hobbies, TV shows, and more."

"When Lynn suggested we scrap a favourite thing, I immediately though of scrapping holding hands with my girls. I love walking down the street, a little girl on either side, clinging to my hands and chatting away. I beam like the proud mama I am! I wanted to contrast the black and white photo with something very delicate frilly-- so I made up these rolled paper flowers on my Wishblade using cut files from Laina Lamb.  I decided to type the journaling, and here's a tip! Print out journaling on scraps of photo paper. The text comes out crystal clear, and the shiny surface helps it to stand out better."

Theme: My Favorite Things

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  This week's theme is "My Favorite Things."  I've asked some of our Pebbles design team members to create projects either focusing on some of their favorite things (e.g., a favorite photo) or using some of their favorite things (e.g., a product, technique, etc).

First up, design team member Suzanne Sergi created this adorable layout focusing on one of her favorite techniques - creating paper flowers.  Here's what Suzanne had to say ... "It is all about favorites this week, and I decided to create a page using one of my favorite paper embellishments. My favorite paper flowers to create are simple scallop flowers. Pair them with the vibrant Happy Go Lucky line, and you have a perfect combination! I used the Glad patterned paper to create the red paper blooms. I used stickers, buttons, and cardstock to embellish the centers. This collection is all about happy, so I found this great photo of my daughter playing on her scooter. Her personality is colorful, and the papers helped to convey this story. The paper blooms were the perfect finishing detail to this fun page!"

I love the Happy Go Lucky line and decided to combine it with the trend of a grid style page.  Of course the page needed some butterflies, another popular scrappy trend, which are also perfect for my girl!"

Guest Designer:

Hi everyone! I am so excited to introduce you to this week's Guest Designer Roree Rumph.  Let's get to know Roree a little better ...

Describe yourself in 3 words …  Caring, Shy, Procrastinator.

My guilty pleasure is …  without a doubt - Starbucks.  I should own part of that company by now.  ;)

You’ll never find me without …  my iPhone.  I am addicted to playing games on it.  It comes in so handy when I am waiting around.

You might be surprised to know that I …  learned to sew because of scrapbooking.  And the funny thing is that my mom made a living with her sewing machine while I was growing up.  (She made custom draperies.)  I never had any interest in learning when I was younger.

My least favorite chore is …  vacuuming.  My dogs are always bringing in dirt, so my floors always need to be cleaned.

I started scrapbooking in ...  2005.  I went to buy party invites for my daughter's 5th birthday party, and the ones I wanted were really expensive.  I decided to make my own, and after that I was hooked.  In hindsight, I should have gotten the expensive invitations.  I would have saved a ton of money in the long run.  LOL

My favorite thing about this hobby is ...  getting to be creative.  From picking and choosing color and patterns to making something from start to finish, I love it all.

If I were a Pebbles product I would be ...  the felt flowers.  You can't go wrong with flowers!

Roree created so many amazing projects for us including this gorgeous layout about her daughter.  Here's what Roree had to say ... "When I saw the felt flower embellishments from the Happy Go Lucky collection, I immediately started looking through my photos for something with flowers.  I found these pictures of my daughter picking flowers when she was 2.  (She's now 11!)  The flowers were the perfect embellishment to help tell my story."
