A Very Fond Farewell

As we head into September and welcome our new 2012 - 2013 Design Team next week we must first bid a very fond farewell to our current design team members.  These gals have been so amazing - they have inspired us daily with their creativity and skillful use of Pebbles products.  I have loved getting to know each and every one of these talented ladies and want to thank you all for your hard work and commitment to this team.

"Because of my husband's work, we weren't really able to travel outside of our area this summer.  We took a little couple day trip to Santa Cruz.  It was a lot of fun.  We took our kids on their first ferris wheel ride at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.  They LOVED it and were hooked!  I love that the colors in the Sunnyside collection matched the ferris wheel seats.  It was too perfect!"  - Mandie Pierce, Pebbles Design Team Member

"The Sunnyside, Countryside Picnic and Hip Hip Hooray collections all have a fun, bright colour palette that is perfect for summer projects, so I used a mixture of products from all three lines to make this page about enjoying lots of summer drinks sitting outside in pub gardens! I cut off the flap of a vellum envelope I had lying around and filled it with a bunch of favourite embellishments to give my page a fun, whimsical feel. "For this week’s summer theme, I thought I’d share a page I created about the very first day of our summer vacation.  I took the kids to a local park where we had a picnic lunch and played on the playground for a while.   As we were leaving they found this bar near the skate park and decided to play on it … I thought it was a great way to record the day – since we were just “hangin’ out” together – which is how we spent many of our days over the summer. My kids were dressed in some pretty colorful clothing and I just loved how their shirts all coordinated with the colors in the Sunnyside collection.  I loved mixing and matching the patterned papers for the background.  I cut the banner strips from the 6x6 pad and layered them around the title.  And I disassembled one of the “smile” clothespins so it would be a little less bulky and tied a bow around it."  - Wendy Sue Anderson, Pebbles Design Team Member

Theme: What I Did This Summer

Do you remember when you were in grade school and the teacher asked you to write the typical "What I Did This Summer" essay?  Well we've decided to partake in this tried and true tradition - Pebbles style!  This week on the Pebbles blog our design team members will be sharing projects all about what they did this summer.  So sit back, relax, and be ready to be inspired while we see what some of our design team members have been up to!

"To say we had an eventful summer would be an understatement!  So I wanted to make a big statement in my layout too with no photos and a long title with my favorite mini letters! I cut the map images with my Silhouette and used the negatives rather than the cut image. Guest Designer: Summer Fullerton and a GIVEAWAY!

Hi everyone! I am so excited to introduce you to this week's Guest Designer Summer Fullerton!  Let's get to know Summer a little better ...

Describe yourself in 3 words … loyal, sarcastic and happy.

My guilty pleasure is … reality tv and chocolate covered pretzels.

You’ll never find me without … my cell phone (and I am sure I am not alone in this).

You might be surprised to know that I … although I was born in the summer I was actually named for a character in the Dick Tracy comic strip (it was my dad’s idea).

My least favorite chore is … cleaning the shower.

I started scrapbooking in ... about 1997.

My favorite thing about this hobby is ... it’s the creative outlet I have always craved.

If I were a Pebbles product I would be … patterned paper because it’s the foundation to every project.

"Hip Hip Hooray was a total match to the photos of my daughter opening up her presents on her eleventh birthday. I created what I like to call a pocket design where I line up different patterned papers and layer photos, title and embellishments down the page randomly tucking elements under the different papers just as if they were pockets."

"I adore 6x6 paper pads and am not afraid to put them to use on more than just cards. I used them to create a quadrant background for this layout. I was struggling with my title for this layout so I asked my daughter if she had any ideas and she came up with the play on words: Hosing Around. I loved the idea and paired it with my other favorite scrabooking obsession working with the negative space from a die cut image/title."

"I have had these little flat paper bags in my crafting stash for years and always thought they would make a cool envelope idea so I used products from the Hip Hip Hooray collection to put together a little birthday card. I trimmed down the original bags for a sleeker look and created a card to poke out of the top of the bag from coordinating patterned paper."

"I found this paper bow pattern on Pinterest and I have used it on several cards over the past few months. When I saw the mini clothes pins I knew I had to make a paper bow and attach a greeting to it using a clothes pin. I hand cut my bow but for all my Silhouette fans I have been told there is one available for purchase."

"The Sunnyside collection has got to be my favorite line right now. I really love the variety of patterns and scales and especially love mixing the traditional 12x12 pieces of paper with the smaller scale pieces from the 6x6 pad. I created a mini banner by folding punched circles in half over twine and securing them with a mini stapler. This is a great way to add pattern to an otherwise monochromatic project/card."

"My family loved watching the Olympics this summer! So much so, that I brought out the girls' 4th of July outfits again. I happened to catch them with their "game faces" on - just so serious - and created this layout about their love of the "lympics" (as they called them). Let Freedom Ring was the perfect collection to capture our patriotic red, white and blue. I used the sketch for this layout but made it all my own by using one larger photo and rotating it to meet my design needs."  - Jill Cornell, Pebbles Design Team Member

"For this week's sketch challenge I decided to create a set of cards inspired by the sketch. The first card I created was the "Life is Good" card, I pretty much followed the design of the sketch, with only some minor tweaks to adjust it for a card. The second card, "You Are My Sunshine" was inspired by the sunburst design of the first card. Whip It Up Wednesday

“I borrowed the idea of making a pledge for my new class that I’ll be getting in September from this pin on Pinterest and wanted to make it into something decorative that I could display in the classroom for all the kids to see. Printing directly on to the vellum, I used different fonts to emphasize each different part of the pledge. To make it look pretty, I stuck with primary colours across a couple of different collections to carry the school theme. I also love all the star motifs in the Let Freedom Ring line and thought that they would be perfect for this. I can’t wait for the kids to see it!”  - Steph Baxter, Pebbles Design Team Member

"This simple, layered page came together in a snap with a mix of the Sunnyside and Fresh Goods lines; two of my favorite Pebbles, Inc. lines to mix. One of my tricks for 'whipping up' a project faster is to work 'smaller'. Just reducing the space down to 8 1/2 x 11 somehow seems less intimidating for me, and allows me to design the page from a different perspective. I also love this format for showcasing 1 or 2 really small photos. The smaller scale of the patterns in the 6 x 6 Sunnyside pad were a perfect addition to my project and because they are already reduced in size, there was no need to cut into a full 12 x 12 sheet. I added some dimension with the Fresh Good chipboard and the textured background of the Fresh Goods Front Desk paper (flipped over to the white side)."  - Valerie Mangan, Pebbles Design Team Member

How To Tuesday

"One of my favorite embellishments from Pebbles are the Masking Tape Stickers.  They are fun and they add a fun touch to any project. I was inspired by this embellishments to do this project - some masking tape magnets to decorate your fridge or your magnet board."  - Eva Pizarro, Pebbles Design Team Member

To create my magnets I first took an old fridge magnet and removed the paper on top.

I covered the magnet with double sided tape and then attached some Sunnyside papers.

To give them a masking tape look I tore up the paper and the magnet with my hands.  You can also use your scissors to make an irregular border or to make little banners.

Mix & Match Monday

It's Monday again which means we'll be mixing and matching some Pebbles products to show you just how well our collections can be used with one another.

"With the first day of school right around the corner, I wanted to put together some little back-to-school gifts for some of my very favorite “back-to-schoolers.”  These little pencil boxes and bows were all cut with my Silhouette and decorated with Pebbles embellishments.  Pebbles Sunnyside and Hip Hip Hooray collections are a match made in heaven.   They are very distinct, individual collections, but when you pair them together, you get a totally unique and fun look!"  - Wendy Sue Anderson, Pebbles Design Team Member

"The Let Freedom Ring line colors of red, blue, and kraft were perfect to scrap this everyday picture of my 16 year old.  I decided to mix in some With Love patterned papers and embellishments to add to the mood of the layout. "Several trends that I am a big fan of are banners, stars, and grids. And on this layout, I incorporated all 3 of them. We always take several photos of the girls on New Year's Day to celebrate the start of another year and I highlighted them on this layout. Stars are a great way to embellish a celebration! I punched stars and arranged them into a grid and then stitched in between. "There are so many fun trends out there but one I've been seeing a lot lately is negative die cutting, and I wanted to give it a try.  While you could of course use an electronic cutting machine, I've gone a much simple route and used an exacto knife to cut out the second part of my title.  Then you just pick a patterned paper and adhere it to the back of the layout.  Draw in pencil what you want to cut first so that you can get a more precise image, and then erase any lines left after.  :)"  - Laura Craigie, Pebbles Design Team Member

"I just recently jumped on the Instagram bandwagon. I hate that I waited so long! And it did not take me long to get addicted! I thought for "Trends" week that it would be fun to do a layout with some of the Instagram pictures I have taken recently. I usually post my Instagram pics on Facebook also, so I was able to save them to my computer from there. I just printed them out from my computer at home and cropped them down from there.
