"The Walnut Grove collection has a fantastic combination of neutrals with pops of color. I made this fall-themed layout with one of my favorite family photos. No die cutting machine was used on this page. I plucked some leaves off of my favorite trees in our neighborhood, traced the shapes of my leaves onto the different pattern papers, cut them out, and added some machine stitching to them before attaching them to my page. "Walnut Grove is such a beautiful, versatile line.  I can forsee using it for lots of different subjects.  I love how the woodgrain paper looks as a background with the fun, bright colors on top.  Normally when I want the bright colors to pop off the background Ii go for kraft cardstock. "I think it’s a natural reaction to see a line of product that has flower embellishments and dismiss it if you have a house full of boys to scrapbook.  I’m here to say…NOT SO FAST!  First of all, there’s nothing wrong with flowers on a boy page – who made that silly rule anyway?  And second of all, be sure to look at each piece individually, and not the collection as a whole.  You just might be surprised at how many of the pieces work wonderfully for boy themed pages!  That’s definitely the case with Walnut Grove.  Sure, there are plenty of flowers and butterflies, but look past those and you will find gorgeous woodgrain and kraft pieces, bright primary colors, oodles of banners & phrases, and plenty of other pieces that will work for your oh-so-boyish photos!  And if you want to throw in a flower or two (as I did)… hey, that’s your prerogative!! ;)"  - Wendy Sue Anderson, Pebbles Design Team Member

"My all-time favorite scrapbooking product is patterned paper.  Sometimes I like to use a lot on a layout,  and then other times I pick just one pattern that I really love to help showcase my photos and the story I'm trying to tell.  I absolutely love the kraft patterned papers that are part of the new Walnut Grove collection (bonus: they are double-sided!)  One of my favorites is the chevron pattern of Cassandra, which I used here as my background paper.  I chose to finish this page by adding some pops of color with the patterned strips at the bottom of the layout as well as with a few layered flowers and cardstock stickers."  - Donna Jannuzzi, Pebbles Design Team Member

Product Focus: Walnut Grove

All this week on the Pebbles blog we will be focusing on one of our brand new collections - Walnut Grove.  Stroll through fields of prairie flowers and wrap up in the textures of the homestead with Walnut Grove. Teal, blue, yellow and pinks, ranging from blush to cranberry, are accented beautifully with black, making the perfect palette for patterns inspired by textiles and nature. 

"I was so excited to play with these new Walnut Grove goodies. I have to admit, I started making this layout before I even had pictures chosen to include. I knew I wanted to use the fabulous woodgrain paper with some bright colors, and when I found these photos of my daughter all decked out this summer standing next to a similar wooden fence, I knew they would be perfect. “This picture was taken this summer during our vacation in south of France.  To make my layout, I started from my picture. I love this “sunny” picture with my son and his beautiful smile!  I then chose to work with “sunny” colors like yellow and some orange and also with white for contrast.  I reproduced the sun’s rays with paper and stitched with vellum.  I also added foliage and flowers to complement the nature theme of my photo!”  - Amelie Mordret, Pebbles Design Team Member

"Each spring for the last several years, my husband and I have taken our kids to a local conservatory's annual butterfly exhibit.  It is an activity that each and every member of our little family enjoys and anticipates.  We can hardly wait to be in a room amongst hundreds of butterflies floating overhead, and hope to be a brief landing spot for one or possibly even two of them!  As you can imagine, this scenario leads to loads of fun photo opportunities and memories captured.  The darling, stitched and dimensional butterflies from Pebbles Sunnyside collection were a must for documenting our annual excursion."  - Jaclyn Rench, Pebbles Design Team Member

Sketchy Thursday

For today's edition of "Sketchy Thursday" we asked some of our design team members to create a project based on this *exclusive* sketch by Becky Fleck.

 

"I really loved the sketch this week, and decided to stick fairly close to it, but adjusted it to work with an 8.5 x 11 page instead.  For the journaling I used the same paper as the background, but from the 6x6 pad, so that I had smaller lines to add my journaling on.  I also have to say how fabulous those thickers are, the glitter is just gorgeous!"  - Laura Craigie, Pebbles Design Team Member

“As soon as I saw the sketch, I knew immediately which photos I was going to use.  I did want to stick to the sketch as closely as possible, using the photo placement and a doily cut out with a Pebbles doily file from my Silhouette worked as a nice mat behind my photos. I wanted to add lots of different paper from the Sunnyside collection and so I thought I would make the most of my collection by taking advantage of the double sided patterns.”  - Nicole Nowosad, Pebbles Design Team Member

Whip It Up Wednesday

"Ever wonder what you can do with the clear plastic clamshell packaging from embellishments and adhesives? Here's the answer: make quick and easy candy holders! Simply remove the package insert, measure it, and cut patterned paper to the same size. Use the packaging insert as a template to round the corners of the patterned paper with scissors. Slip the patterned paper into the packaging in place of the insert, add a sticker to the front of the packaging, and tie on some ribbon. All that's left is to make someone very happy by handing it to them filled with candy!"  - Vivian Masket, Pebbles Design Team Member

How To Tuesday

"When I first got into card making, these were some of the first “fun fold” cards I made, and they’re still my go-to cards for fast and easy gift card giving.  They are tiny, but oh-so-cute, and people love opening them and seeing the fun gift card inside."  - Tiffany Hood, Pebbles Design Team Member

First, cut a piece of 12” x 4” cardstock.  Score it at 3”, 6” and 9”, and accordion fold it.

Then, place adhesive on three edges of the inside of the cardstock as shown with yellow highlighter.

And then press together so you have an inside folded section, and two outside sections. (The top fold shouldn’t have any adhesive across it, this is where the gift card will go when we cut the opening).

Then on the fold, cut with scissors about ½ inch down from the fold, and ¼ inch in from both sides.

This is where your gift card will go.

Make a notch in the opening using a circle punch.  I’ve used a 1 ¼ inch punch here, but any size, and any shape, will work.  This makes it easier to get the gift card out.

Now the inside is complete!

Decorate the front as desired, and then wrap a piece of ribbon around the gift card and adhere.  Make sure to glue so that the ends of the ribbon meet at the top.

Insert your gift card, and tie a bow at the top to close.  Embellish, and give away!

Meet the Team: Laurel Seabrook and Nicole Nowosad

Laurel Seabrook lives in Canada with her family.  She started scrapbooking 13 years ago although she has been scrapbooking in some way or another all of her life.  Laurel describes her style as clean and simple with added bits of layering and doo dads.  We are so happy to have Laurel join us this term.

"To create the sun I used my Cricut for the circles and then I just free handed the strips for the rays.  I like the irregularity the free handing creates as I am not one for things being symmetrical.  I also love to add machine stitching to most of my projects as it is such an easy way to add a bit of texture and interest."  - Laurel Seabrook, Pebbles Design Team Member

Shawna Webster lives in Hawaii with her husband and their two children.  She started scrapbooking 11 years ago when her first son was born.  We are so thrilled to have Shawna join our team this year.
